three methods for the design of pad footings
Isolated footings (also known as Pad or Spread footings) are commonly used for shallow foundations in order to carry and spread concentrated loads, caused for example by columns or pillars. ... It is able to design the entire footing and to compute settlement, rotation and bearing capacity of the footing.
"Eurocode 7 ("Geotechnical design-part 1: General rules") has three methods for the design of pad footings ( spread footing), namely
i. Direct method where separate analysis are carried out for each limit state.
ii. Indirect method where ultimate and serviceability limit states are considered simultaneously.
iii. Prescriptive method where presumed bearing resistance is used for the serviceability limit state and structural design carried out for the ultimate limit state. "
